UMKOMAAS FISHING SITES ERROL HAYES ROCKS – CLANSTHAL - Rock & Surf The rocks at the northern end of Clansthal bay. Predominant species: Shad, Garrick, Kob. GREEN POINT - CLANSTHAL - Rock & Surf The headland to the south of Clansthal bay. Predominant species: Kob, Shad. TIDAL POOL ROCKS – UMKOMAAS - Rock & Surf To the south of the river mouth. Predominant species: Shed, Garrick. WIDENHAM – UMKOMAAS - Rock & Surf South of the Umkomaas bathing beach. Predominant species: Shad, Blacktail. SCOTTBURGH FISHING SITES ABRAHAM'S ROCK - PARK RYNIE - Rock & Surf The small rock promontory in front of the village. Predominant species: Shad, Garrick, Kob. NOTE: can be dangerous during heavy seas. GOLF ROCKS – SCOTTBURGH - Rock & Surf Situated in front of the golf course. Predominant species: Shad, Kob, Garrick. HAPPY WANDERERS CARAVAN PARK - KELSO - Rock & Surf To the right off the caravan park. Predominant species: Shad, Garrick, Sandsharks, Skates. LITTLE BLACK ROCKS – SCOTTBURGH - Rock & Surf This spot lies just north of the Cutty Sark Hotel. Predominant species: Shad, Stumpnose, Kob. McGEE'S – IFAFA - Rock & Surf The rocks around the Ifafa beach tidal pool. Predominant species: Shad, Garrick, Kob. ROCKY BAY - PARK RYNIE - Rock & Surf Located south of town near the old whaling station. There is a caravan park on the beach. Predominant species: Shad, Kob, Springer. SEZELA – SEZELA - Rock & Surf Good gully fishing for panfish. Predominant species: Shad. STATION BAY – IFAFA - Rock & Surf Located immediately south of the Ifafa River. Predominant species: Shad, Stumpnose, Blacktail. TESINGANE - BAZLY BEACH - Rock & Surf A rocky promontory to the north of Bazley beach. Predominant species: Shad, Kob, Garrick THE GULLY - PARK RYNIE - Rock & Surf Located between Rocky Bay and Abraham’s Rock. Predominant species: Sandsharks, Dusky Sharks Blacktail, Karanteen TIDAL POOL – SCOTTBURGH - Rock & Surf Lies at the southern end of the main bathing beach. Predominant species: Shad, Garrick, Kob, King Mackerel (Couta). UMDONI POINT – PENNINGTON - Rock & Surf At the end of Pennington’s bathing beach. Predominant species: King Mackerel (Couta), Queen Mackerel Natal Snoek), Shad, Garrick. NOTE: can be dangerous during heavy seas. MTWALUME – MTWALUME - Rock & Surf The rocks around the tidal pool are popular. Predominant species: Shad, Garrick, Kob. HIBBERDENE FISHING SITES BANANA BEACH – HIBBERDENE - Rock & Surf A good spot to fish during winter. Predominant species: Shad, Garrick, Kob. CRACKER BAY – UMZUMBE - Rock & Surf Immediately south of Pumula Rocks and in front of the houses at Pumula. Predominant species: Shad, Garrick. PUMULA ROCKS – UMZUMBE - Rock & Surf Situated in front of the houses at Pumula. Predominant species: Shad, Garrick, Kob. STIEBEL ROCKS – UMZUMBE - Rock & Surf A rocky promontory protruding relatively far into the sea just south of the Umzumbe Hotel. Keep an eye on the waves. Predominant species: Shad, Karanteen, Blacktail, Garrick, Kingfish, Kob. TIDAL POOL – HIBBERDENE - Rock & Surf Fish from the rocks at the tidal pool. Predominant species: Shad, Garrick, Kob. TURTLE BAY - BANANA BEACH - Rock & Surf Immediately north of Banana Beach. Predominant species: Shad, Garrick, Kob. UMZUMBE BEACH – UMZUMBE - Rock & Surf Located in front of the Umzumbe Hotel. Predominant species: Shad, Kob. PORT SHEPSTONE FISHING SITES ANCHOR BAY – UMTENTWENI - Rock & Surf Opposite the Umtentweni residential area. Predominant species: Shad, Garrick, Kob. LIGHTHOUSE ROCKS - PORT SHEPSTONE - Rock & Surf On the headland, south of the Mzimkulu River mouth. Predominant species: Kob, Shad, Garrick. LUCKY DIP BAY - PORT SHEPSTONE - Rock & Surf The bay immediately south of Station Bay and approximately 1.5km south of the Mzimkulu River mouth. Predominant species: Shad, Garrick, Kob. SANDSPIT - PORT SHEPSTONE - Rock & Surf A premier Kob fishing spot on the north bank of the Mzimkulu River mouth. Predominant species: Kob, Shad. SHARK'S ROCK - PORT SHEPSTONE - Rock & Surf So named for the number of hooked fish that have been eaten by sharks. NOTE: very dangerous during rough seas. SPLASH ROCKS (POOL ROCKS) – UMTENTWENI - Rock & Surf The rocks surrounding the tidal pool. Predominant species: Shad, Blacktail, Karanteen. THE BLOCK - PORT SHEPSTONE - Rock & Surf A concrete structure at the southern end of the sandspit on the south bank of the Mzimkulu River mouth. Predominant species: Shad, Garrick, Kob. SHELLY BEACH FISHING SITES ORANGE ROCKS – UVONGO - Rock & Surf Situated between Surf Bay and Uvongo beach. Predominant species: Kingfish, Garrick, Yellowtail, Prodigal Son. POTHOLE– UVONGO - Rock & Surf Immediately north of Orange Rocks, between Surf Bay and Uvongo beach. Predominant species: Kob, Musselcracker, Kingfish. SURF BAY - ST MICHAELS-ON-SEA - Rock & Surf The small bay to the north of the Surf Bay bathing beach. Predominant species: Shad. TIDAL POOL ROCKS - SHELLY BEACH - Rock & Surf Fish from the rocks at the Shelly Beach tidal pool. Predominant species: Blacktail, Stone Bream, Karanteen. UVONGO PIER – UVONGO - Rock & Surf Predominant species: Shad, Garrick, Kingfish. MARGATE FISHING SITES BLUE BAY – RAMSGATE - Rock & Surf Leaving Margate and heading south, the road passes a row of duplexes after which a little road leads to Blue Bay. Predominant species: Shad, Kob, Garrick. BIRD ROCK – MARGATE - Rock & Surf Directly in front of Margate’s tidal pool. Predominant species: Garrick, King Mackerel, (Couta). GROOM'S PANTRY – RAMSGATE – River A small sheltered rocky bay about 1km south of Ramsgate beach. Predominant species: Bronze Bream, Galjoen, Blacktail. LEE ROCK – MARGATE - Rock & Surf A concrete platform on the south side of the first bay south of Margate pier. Predominant species: Kob, Shad. LUCIEN POINT – MARGATE - Rock & Surf Situated at the northern end of Margate beach. Predominant species: Shad, Kob. MARGATE PIER – MARGATE – Pier Currently closed and out of use. Predominant species: Shad, Pompano, Springer. PINKY ROCK – RAMSGATE - Rock & Surf Situated on the northern end of Ramsgate bathing beach. Predominant species: Shad, Kob. SEWERAGE ROCKS – MARGATE - Rock & Surf Immediately south of Bird Rock and the tidal pool. Predominant species: Stone Bream, Blacktail, Bronze Bream, Galjoen. SHAD BAY – MARGATE - Rock & Surf Immediately north of Lucien Point, opposite a small car park. Predominant species: Shad. WHALE'S BACK – RAMSGATE - Rock & Surf A large flat rock protruding into the sea, immediately south of the bathing beach. Only accessible at low tide. Predominant species: Shad, Kob, Garrick, Prodigal Son, Kingfish. SOUTHBROOM FISHING SITES BEACON ROCK - GLENMORE - Rock & Surf Situated about 0.5km south of the Uvongo pier. Predominant species: Shad, Garrick, Kingfish. BIG TREE BEACH – SOUTHBROOM - Rock & Surf At the northern end of Southbroom's bathing beach. Predominant species: Shad, Kob. CENTRE ROCKS – MARINA BEACH - Rock & Surf Predominant species: Shad, Kob, Blacktail, Stumpnose. HIGH ROCKS - PALM BEACH - Rock & Surf Near the tidal pool, approximately 500m south of Shad Rocks. Predominant species: Shad, Garrick. LADDER ROCK - GLENMORE BEACH - Rock & Surf Located 500m south of Pulpit Rock. The summit is reached via a ladder. Predominant species: Bronze Bream, Galjoen, Shad, Kob. PULPIT ROCK - GLENMORE BEACH - Rock & Surf One of the best deep water spots on the South Coast. Located approx. 200m along the high rocks in front of the hotel. A high dome-shaped rock, with a concrete pathway leading to its apex. Predominant species: King Mackerel (Couta), Kingfish, Garrick, Shad. SHAD ROCKS - PALM BEACH - Rock & Surf Shortly after the winding access road makes its final turn south towards the caravan park there is a grassy car park up on the hill on the left hand side. Shad Rocks lies directly in front of this. Predominant species: Shad, Kob, Garrick. THE FOURTH TEE – SOUTHBROOM - Rock & Surf Opposite the Southbroom Golf Course. Predominant species: Shad, Stone Bream, Blacktail. PORT EDWARD FISHING SITES BLACK ROCK - PORT EDWARD - Rock & Surf Approximately 1km south of Port Edward beach and immediately south of Splash Rock. Predominant species: King Mackerel (Couta), Kingfish, Kob, Garrick. SPIROS - PORT EDWARD - Rock & Surf Located immediately south of the Port Edward lighthouse. Predominant species: King Mackerel (Couta), Kingfish, Kob, Garrick. SPLASH ROCK - PORT EDWARD - Rock & Surf Approximately 700m south of Port Edward beach and immediately south of Suicide Rocks. Predominant species: King Mackerel (Couta), Kingfish, Kob, Garrick, Shad, Blacktail. SUICIDE ROCKS - PORT EDWARD - Rock & Surf Approximately 600m south of the Port Edward beach and immediately south of Lucky Dip Rocks. Predominant species: King Mackerel (Couta), Kingfish, Kob, Garrick. THE GULLY - PORT EDWARD - Rock & Surf Located between Rocky Bay and Abraham’s Rock.
